Riyadh Hosts Key Aviation Event
The Sand & Fun General Aviation Air Show 2025 officially commenced on November 25, 2025, at Al-Thumamah Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The event, scheduled to run until November 29, 2025, immediately marked its significance with the signing of 18 investment agreements totaling SR250 million (approximately $66.6 million).
Showcasing Aviation Innovation and Talent
The air show features a dynamic program designed to highlight advancements in the general aviation sector. Attendees can experience over 90 aerial performances, including a notable F-15SA aerial display, and explore exhibits from more than 150 exhibitors. Interactive zones, such as Terminal X, offer flight simulations with extended reality technologies and displays of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The event also hosts 'Hangar Talks,' where experts discuss sustainable aviation and emerging technologies.
Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Chairman of the Saudi Aviation Club, attended the opening day, emphasizing the event's role in developing the general aviation sector. The show places a strong emphasis on youth engagement, with over 70,000 work hours contributed by young Saudis, reflecting growing interest in the aviation field among the Kingdom's youth. Organizers anticipate more than 200,000 visitors throughout the event.
Strategic Investments for Economic Diversification
The SR250 million in investment agreements signed at the Sand & Fun General Aviation Air Show are aimed at advancing technology transfer and bolstering aviation industries. These deals align with Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to establish Saudi Arabia as a regional aviation manufacturing hub, diversify the national economy, and create new job opportunities within the expanding sector.
This event is part of a broader, ambitious strategy by Saudi Arabia to transform its aviation landscape. The Future Aviation Forum (FAF), held in May 2024 in Riyadh, unveiled investment opportunities exceeding $100 billion in the Kingdom's aviation sector. This includes over $50 billion earmarked for airport development, approximately $40 billion for new aircraft acquisitions, and $10 billion for other aviation projects, such as logistics zones around major airports in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam. The overarching goal is to triple passenger numbers, connect to over 250 destinations, and handle 330 million passengers and 4.5 million tonnes of cargo annually by 2030.
Fostering Growth in Saudi Aviation
The Sand & Fun General Aviation Air Show 2025 serves as a crucial platform for companies to showcase innovations and explore investment opportunities within Saudi Arabia's rapidly expanding aviation industry. By fostering collaboration and attracting significant capital, the event contributes directly to the Kingdom's strategic objectives of becoming a leading global aviation and logistics hub.
