Dramatic Rescue Unfolds in Jerusalem
A 15-year-old boy was successfully rescued on Monday, November 24, 2025, after being trapped for an estimated seven to nine hours on a crane towering 36 stories (approximately 300 meters or 328 feet) above Jerusalem. The dramatic operation, carried out by Israel's Fire and Rescue Service, concluded with the teenager being safely lowered to the ground.
The Incident and Discovery
The incident began around midnight when the boy reportedly climbed the crane, located near the entrance to Jerusalem. He was discovered in the morning, precariously positioned on a small platform connected to the crane's hook. According to Israel's Fire and Rescue Service, the teenager informed rescuers that his motivation for ascending the massive structure was simply to 'see the view.' Officials quickly ruled out a suicide attempt.
Complex Rescue Operation
The rescue effort was described as highly complex due to the extreme height and challenging angles of the crane. Fire teams, alerted by a bystander, scaled the crane and deployed advanced rope systems. A first responder was lowered via a pulley system to reach the boy, who was then fitted with a helmet and harness before being carefully brought down. Shai Nehemiah, the Fire and Rescue Service's commander at the scene, emphasized the professionalism required for the operation, stating, 'This is a very complex rescue, both due to the great height and the challenging and problematic angle at which the crane is positioned.'
Aftermath and Broader Context
Upon reaching the ground, the teenager was transferred to medical services. He was found to have suffered light abrasions and dehydration but was otherwise in good condition. He was subsequently taken to Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem for further treatment. The crane stands adjacent to an unfinished skyscraper, notably the same building from which a young man tragically fell to his death during a Haredi anti-draft protest in October. Fire official Eyal Cohen remarked on the recurring issue of young individuals scaling tall buildings in the city, calling this particular event 'a serious incident that ended in a miracle.'

Just for a view? Beyond irresponsible. He should face consequences.

Where are the parents? This recklessness is unacceptable.

The courage and skill of the rescue service are undeniable, and it's wonderful the boy is safe. Yet, this entire situation was preventable, demanding a serious look into why young people feel compelled to undertake such extreme risks.
