Meisters' Professional History

Prior to his confirmation as Prosecutor General, Armīns Meisters held the position of Chief Prosecutor of the Riga District Prosecutor's Office since May 2018. He was reappointed to this role for a second term in 2023. His extensive career within the prosecutor's office dates back to 2000, during which he served in various capacities, including Chief Prosecutor of the Riga City Center District Prosecutor's Office and Chief Prosecutor of the Financial and Economic Crimes Investigation Prosecutor's Office.

Transition and Predecessor

Meisters succeeds Juris Stukāns, whose term as Prosecutor General concluded on July 11th, 2025. The selection process for the new Prosecutor General experienced a delay due to an investigation into Stukāns' actions related to a whistleblower report concerning the 'Kariņš flight case'. However, the Supreme Court ultimately found no grounds for his dismissal, and the nomination process resumed. During the interim period, Chief Prosecutor Arvīds Kalniņš served as acting Prosecutor General.
