Franco-Ukrainian Collaboration Yields Advanced Anti-Drone Technology
France and Ukraine have officially unveiled a new, jointly developed anti-drone system named the 'Safe Protection Dome,' following several months of operational deployment and proven effectiveness in Ukraine. The system, which integrates jet-powered interceptors and advanced artificial intelligence, was presented during a meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Paris on November 17, 2025.
The introduction of the 'Safe Protection Dome' marks a significant step in bolstering Ukraine's air defense capabilities against persistent drone threats, particularly from Russian Shahed-type UAVs.
System Capabilities and Operational Success
Developed by the French company Alta Ares in collaboration with Ukrainian partners, including Tenebris, the 'Safe Protection Dome' is a comprehensive counter-drone solution. It combines Thales and Echodyne tactical radars with two types of interceptors: X-Wing quadcopter interceptors for short-range engagements and turbojet-powered interceptors, a result of joint French and Ukrainian engineering.
The system boasts a neutralization range of up to 30 kilometers and incorporates a built-in artificial intelligence guidance suite, known as Pixel Lock. This AI technology is reported to increase end-game interception accuracy by 35 percent, with developers aiming for 75 percent by next year. Alta Ares CEO and co-founder Hadrien Canter highlighted the rapid transition from NATO certification to combat deployment, stating, 'Just two weeks after passing NATO validation, our system demonstrated its effectiveness by successfully destroying Russian Shahed drones.'
The 'Safe Protection Dome' successfully completed NATO validation on October 20, 2025, and was deployed in Ukraine less than two weeks later. Since its deployment, the system has reportedly downed over 1,000 enemy drones in four months, with nearly half of these interceptions occurring in October alone.
Production and Future Outlook
Production of the turbojet interceptors is already underway, utilizing 85 percent European components to reduce reliance on external supply chains. Alta Ares has announced plans to localize the full production cycle in France and simultaneously expand manufacturing capabilities in Ukraine, aiming to establish a resilient, dual-national defense technology cluster. Bohdan Velma, CEO of Tenebris, emphasized the importance of this bilateral initiative for both nations.
The unveiling of the 'Safe Protection Dome' was part of a broader defense cooperation agreement signed by Presidents Macron and Zelenskyy, which also included discussions on the potential procurement of Rafale fighter jets and SAMP/T air defense systems for Ukraine.

Too little, too late. The damage from drones has already been immense.

30km range is hardly a 'dome'. This is just a localized solution.
