Red Sea Global Announces Opening of Ultra-Luxury AMAALA Coastal Destination in Saudi Arabia

Red Sea Global Unveils AMAALA Triple Bay

Red Sea Global (RSG), the developer behind Saudi Arabia's ambitious regenerative tourism projects, has announced the upcoming opening of AMAALA Triple Bay. The ultra-luxury, wellness-focused coastal destination is situated across three naturally formed bays on the Kingdom's northwestern coast, where the Hijaz Mountains meet the Red Sea. The announcement was made during the inaugural TOURISE Summit, marking a significant milestone for Saudi Arabia's tourism sector.

John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global, stated, 'Deriving from the Arabic word for hope, AMAALA offers a new coastal lifestyle rooted in wellness right here in Saudi Arabia. Guests and residents are invited to discover and honor what it means for them to live longer, better, whether that be serene retreats or sea and sun-soaked adventures.'

Economic Impact and Vision 2030 Alignment

AMAALA is a pivotal component of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, a strategic framework aimed at diversifying the nation's economy and fostering new opportunities beyond oil. The project is projected to generate up to 50,000 direct and indirect jobs and contribute approximately SAR 11 billion (USD 3 billion) annually to the national GDP once fully operational.

RSG has invested SAR 51.04 billion in Phase One of AMAALA's development. The project has also secured significant green financing, including SAR 6.5 billion (USD 1.73 billion), reflecting investor confidence in its sustainable approach. Over 600 contracts worth SAR 23 billion (US$6.1 billion) have been awarded to global partners for the project's construction.

A Hub for Ultra-Luxury Wellness and Sustainability

The first phase of AMAALA Triple Bay will feature a collection of world-class amenities and experiences, including:

  • Six luxury resorts, with more planned for subsequent phases.
  • A state-of-the-art yacht club, poised to host major events like The Ocean Race Grand Finale in 2027.
  • A dedicated Marine Life Institute, focusing on marine research and conservation.
  • A modern Marina Village.
  • A 5-kilometer Wellness Route, connecting resorts and offering access to nature and outdoor activities.

Among the luxury brands opening resorts in Phase One are Equinox Resort and Residences, Four Seasons Resort and Residences, Nammos Resort and Residences, and Rosewood Resort. Additional properties like the Clinique La Prairie Health Resort, Jayasom Wellness Resort, and The Ritz-Carlton Resort are also progressing towards opening in the coming months.

Sustainability is a core principle of AMAALA, which aims to operate entirely on 100% renewable energy, targeting an annual reduction of approximately 350,000 tons of CO₂ emissions. The destination is committed to achieving a 30% net conservation benefit to local ecosystems by 2040 through habitat restoration and biodiversity enhancement. Visitor numbers will be capped at 500,000 annually to preserve the pristine environment.

Future Outlook

The AMAALA project, spanning over 4,000 square kilometers, is designed to be a year-round destination offering diverse activities across sea, sun, sports, arts, and culture. While the first guests are expected in the coming months, the full completion of the project is anticipated by 2030, with plans for over 3,000 hotel rooms across 25 hotels, luxury villas, apartments, and high-end retail and dining facilities.

The development of the Marine Life Institute is a promising aspect for research and conservation. However, the potential strain on marine ecosystems from increased yacht traffic and visitor numbers needs careful, ongoing monitoring.

Generating SAR 11 billion annually and creating jobs is a strong move for economic diversification. Still, the focus on ultra-luxury might limit the broader societal impact compared to investments in other sectors.

Another exclusive playground for the ultra-rich. What about local communities?

Greenwashing at its finest. 'Sustainable' luxury in the desert is an oxymoron.
