Drone Attack Targets Saratov Refinery
Overnight on November 11, 2025, Ukrainian forces conducted a drone attack targeting the Saratov Oil Refinery in Saratov, Russia. Reports indicate a series of explosions followed by a significant fire at the facility. The refinery, owned by Rosneft, is a major producer of petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel, fuel oil, and bitumen, and is considered a key supplier for the Russian military.
The General Staff of Ukraine and the Forces of Unmanned Systems have confirmed their involvement in the strike. This incident marks the seventh attack on the Saratov refinery since the beginning of 2025 and the fifth this autumn, highlighting a sustained campaign against Russia's energy infrastructure.
Official Statements and Reported Damage
Russian authorities acknowledged the drone activity. Russia's Defense Ministry stated that its air defense systems intercepted 37 Ukrainian drones overnight, with eight of them downed over the Saratov Oblast. Saratov Governor Roman Busargin reported that drones caused 'damage to civilian infrastructure' and shattered windows in several homes. He confirmed that one person sustained injuries but did not require hospitalization. However, Governor Busargin did not explicitly confirm that the refinery itself was hit.
Despite Russian officials' statements, Ukrainian sources and media reports widely indicate the refinery as the primary target. The extent of the damage to the refinery's operations is still being assessed by Ukrainian officials. Some industry sources suggested that while oil processing was temporarily suspended, key units of the refinery were not severely damaged, with expectations for operations to resume within a day or two. The refinery processed approximately 4.8 million metric tons of crude oil in 2023, according to Ukraine's General Staff, or 5.8 million tons in 2024, as per industry sources.
Broader Context of Ukrainian Strikes
The attack on the Saratov refinery is part of a wider series of Ukrainian drone operations targeting Russian energy assets. In addition to Saratov, Ukrainian drones also struck the Morskoy Neftyanoy Terminal in Feodosia, occupied Crimea, and a Russian military warehouse along with troop concentrations in Donetsk Oblast. These strikes aim to disrupt Russia's fuel supply and logistics, impacting its military-economic capabilities. Following the incident, Saratov airport temporarily imposed flight restrictions.

Russia says it wasn't even hit hard. Is this really effective or just propaganda?

It's understandable that Ukraine would target key Rosneft facilities to hinder Russian logistics and fuel supply. Yet, the differing reports from Russian and Ukrainian sources make it difficult to ascertain the true extent of the damage or its operational impact.

They're just provoking more retaliation. This cycle needs to end.

Every drop of oil denied to their military counts. Keep up the pressure, Ukraine!

Finally, some real consequences for their aggression. This is how you cripple their supply lines.
