Moscow Technopolis SEZ Export Revenues Triple in First Half of 2025

Significant Export Growth Reported

Residents of the Moscow Technopolis Special Economic Zone (SEZ) have reported a substantial increase in export deliveries during the first half of 2025. The export volume tripled, reaching approximately one billion rubles. This figure represents a 3.3-fold increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry, highlighted the city's active support for high-tech enterprises as a key factor. He stated that this support enables companies to boost production and expand their reach into international markets.

Diverse High-Tech Products Drive Exports

The impressive export performance is attributed to a range of high-tech products from various resident companies within the SEZ. Notable contributions include:

  • Nanotechnology Center of Composites, LLC, which generated 652 million rubles in export income. This company specializes in goods made from new materials, primarily used in the construction and reconstruction of large infrastructure facilities. Its products were shipped to countries such as Bangladesh, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
  • A resident company that exported integrated electronic circuits valued at 137 million rubles to the People's Republic of China.
  • Another resident that supplied high-tech inspection equipment to the United Arab Emirates.
  • Manufacturers of medical devices, including emergency medical kits, sterilizers, disinfection and washing machines, and endoscope storage equipment, which found markets in CIS countries like Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan.
  • Nex-T LLC, producing interactive systems, digital desks, navigation stands, projectors, and children's tables, also contributed to the export growth.

Strategic Support and Preferential Regimes

The sustained growth in exports from the Moscow Technopolis SEZ is underpinned by strategic support mechanisms and preferential conditions offered to its residents. The Mosprom Center plays a crucial role by providing systemic assistance to export-oriented enterprises, guiding them through every stage of entering foreign markets.

The SEZ, a specialized territory for innovative production development, offers significant benefits to high-tech companies. These include exemptions from transportation, property, and land taxes, along with a reduced profit tax rate of just two percent, compared to the standard 20 percent. These incentives allow manufacturers to reinvest in product development and innovation, fostering job creation.

Moscow Technopolis SEZ: A Hub for Innovation

The Moscow Technopolis SEZ encompasses six sites, including Alabushevo, Micron, MIET, Angstrem, Pechatniki, and Rudnevo, hosting over 220 high-tech enterprises. In 2024, the SEZ was recognized for its significant economic impact, securing first place in the Expert Analytical Center's rating for 'Contribution to the Russian Economy'. The zone has also been instrumental in creating over 22,000 highly paid jobs. The continuous influx of new residents, with 17 manufacturers of medical equipment, batteries, drones, and microelectronics gaining resident status in 2024, further solidifies its position as a leading innovation hub.

While the reported export growth is impressive for the SEZ, it's important to consider its overall contribution to Russia's vast economy. Is this growth truly diversified or concentrated in a few specific areas?

The tax incentives clearly attract businesses to the Technopolis, which is a positive for local development. However, one has to ask if these benefits are sustainable and equitable compared to other struggling sectors.

Developing high-tech exports is a strategic move for any emerging power, signaling progress. Yet, the reliance on specific markets and certain product types might make these gains vulnerable to geopolitical shifts.
