Following an incident involving drones over a Belgian nuclear power plant, similar reports have emerged from Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands, leading to temporary airport closures and investigations into potential security threats.

Incidents in Germany and Belgium

Germany has experienced multiple airspace disruptions due to drone activity in recent weeks. On November 2, 2025, flights at Bremen Airport were briefly suspended for nearly an hour after an unidentified drone was spotted. Just days prior, on October 31, 2025, air traffic at Berlin Brandenburg Airport faced a nearly two-hour suspension for the same reason. Earlier in October 2025, Munich Airport halted flights twice due to drone sightings, impacting thousands of passengers. German authorities have also investigated claims of unidentified drones spying on critical infrastructure in Schleswig-Holstein, with multiple drones observed over a power plant, a university hospital, and a shipyard in Kiel on September 25, 2025.

The incidents follow reports from Belgium, where three drones were sighted over the Doel Nuclear Power Plant in northern Belgium on the evening of November 9, 2025. While operations at the plant remained unaffected, this event is part of a broader pattern of drone incursions over sensitive Belgian sites, including military bases like Kleine Brogel Air Base, which reportedly houses US nuclear weapons, and major airports such as Brussels and Liège. The Belgian army issued orders to shoot down unknown drones over military bases on November 3, and air traffic at Brussels Airport was suspended on November 4 due to a drone sighting. Belgium has since requested and received support from the German Ministry of Defense for drone defense.

Disruptions in Denmark and the Netherlands

Denmark has also faced significant challenges, with Copenhagen Airport experiencing a nearly four-hour shutdown on September 22, 2025, due to drone sightings. This incident affected approximately 100 flights and thousands of passengers, prompting the Danish Prime Minister to label it a 'serious attack' on critical infrastructure.
