Moreno Secures Fourth Term as PP-A President
Juanma Moreno was overwhelmingly reelected as the president of the Partido Popular de Andalucía (PP-A) on November 8, 2025. The vote took place during the 17th Regional Congress of the PP-A held in Seville, where Moreno, as the sole candidate, secured an impressive 99.95% of the valid votes cast by delegates. This marks his fourth time leading the regional party since he first assumed the presidency in 2014.
Centrist Strategy for Future Elections
In his address, Moreno emphasized a centrist political approach, a strategy he has consistently championed. He articulated his ambition to lead the PP-A to another absolute majority in the next Andalusian regional elections, anticipated in 2026. Moreno stated his commitment to 'leave his skin' to ensure the party remains the leading political force and achieves the 'majority of stability' necessary for Andalusia.
His rhetoric underscored a clear distinction from both the far-right Vox and the socialist PSOE. Moreno has previously criticized Vox for 'blunders' and urged them to engage in 'self-criticism,' even attributing the PSC's victory in Catalonia to Vox's actions. Regarding the PSOE, he has expressed that 'Spain needs a sensible, reasonable PSOE' and has previously suggested that the PSOE often relies on Vox as its primary campaign argument. This positioning aims to consolidate a broad base of support, appealing to voters across the political spectrum.
Anticipating the 2026 Regional Elections
Moreno's reelection comes as the PP-A prepares for what he described as 'complicated months' leading up to the 2026 elections. He warned party members that adversaries would 'play dirty' but affirmed the PP-A's commitment to respond with 'dignity, respect, and education.' The party's current strength in Andalusia follows a historic victory in the 2022 regional elections, where the PP secured an absolute majority with 58 out of 109 seats, marking the first time the party governed the region without needing coalition partners. This past success provides a strong foundation for Moreno's current mandate and his aspirations for the upcoming electoral cycle.

99.95% as the only candidate? That's not a real election, just a coronation.

His centrist approach is exactly what Spain needs right now. Very smart strategy.

The PP-A's strong position in Andalusia under Moreno is undeniable, and his commitment to the region is clear. Nevertheless, the challenges for the 2026 elections are significant, and overcoming them will require more than just strong rhetoric against other parties.

More criticism of other parties than actual policy proposals. Very disappointing.
