Members of the anti-Kremlin resistance movement, known as the 'Freedom of Russia', have reportedly carried out a series of sabotage operations across the Russian Federation, disabling dozens of military locomotives. These operations, confirmed by Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR/GUR), aimed to disrupt the logistical supply lines crucial for Russian forces engaged in the conflict in Ukraine.

The resistance fighters utilized incendiary devices, described as 'incendiary cocktails' or 'Molotov cocktails', to target and destroy the control and power systems of the locomotives. This method of attack has rendered the affected trains inoperable, with the 'Freedom of Russia' movement claiming the damaged systems 'burned out completely, making the trains impossible to repair'.

Impact on Russian Supply Lines

According to statements from Ukraine's intelligence, these coordinated attacks have had a significant impact on Russia's military logistics. The HUR reported that the sabotage actions have 'significantly slowed the movement of enemy resources and disrupted the stability of logistical support to enemy units on the front'. The targeted locomotives were primarily used for transporting weapons, ammunition, and equipment for the war against Ukraine.

The 'Freedom of Russia' Movement

The 'Freedom of Russia' movement, also referred to as the 'Freedom of Russia Legion', is a Ukrainian-based paramilitary group composed of Russian citizens who oppose the regime of Vladimir Putin and the ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Formed in March 2022, the group reportedly includes defectors from the Russian Armed Forces and other Russian volunteers. Ukraine's intelligence services have described the 'Freedom of Russia' movement as one of the 'largest and most effective resistance movements' operating within Russian territory since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

The movement has claimed responsibility for numerous acts of sabotage aimed at undermining Moscow's war effort from within, including railway disruptions and attacks on military facilities.
