UK Records Remarkable Series of Mild November Temperatures

Unprecedented Warmth Across the UK

The United Kingdom has experienced a remarkable start to November 2025, with the Met Office confirming a series of new high daily minimum temperature records across numerous locations. This period of unseasonably mild weather has seen dozens of weather stations report notable warmth, particularly overnight, following an October that was already warmer than average.

Record-Breaking Minimums

Several sites across the UK have provisionally set new high daily minimum temperature records in early November. Among the standout figures reported by the Met Office are:

  • Valley, Gwynedd: Recorded 14.1°C on November 6, surpassing its previous record of 13.6°C from 2022, based on 94 years of records.
  • Chivenor, Devon: Reached 14.8°C on November 5, exceeding its 1996 record of 14.1°C.
  • Culdrose, Cornwall: Saw a minimum of 13.8°C on November 5, beating the 13.6°C set in 2010.
  • Leeming, North Yorkshire: Registered 13.7°C on November 4, surpassing its 2007 record of 13.6°C.
Notably, Bonfire Night 2025 (the night of November 5th-6th) was provisionally the mildest on record, with temperatures in Teddington, London, only dropping to 14.4°C. This figure surpassed the previous record of 13.9°C recorded at Gordon Castle, Scotland, in 1938.

Meteorological Factors Behind the Mild Spell

The Met Office attributes this exceptional mild spell to a combination of meteorological factors. A significant flow of warm air from the south has swept across the UK, contributing to the elevated temperatures. This southerly pattern, coupled with persistent cloudy skies, has effectively trapped warmth overnight, preventing temperatures from falling significantly. Additionally, a lack of cold continental air has played a role in sustaining the mild conditions. The preceding month, October 2025, was provisionally 0.7°C above the 1991–2020 average, setting the stage for November's record-breaking warmth. Jet stream patterns across the Atlantic are also influencing the current weather outlook.

Outlook for Temperatures

While the UK has experienced unseasonably mild conditions, the Met Office forecasts a gradual decline in temperatures in the coming days. However, temperatures are expected to remain above average for mid-November. The mild conditions have been widespread, affecting regions from the South West and Wales to the North and Midlands, with Scotland and Northern Ireland also experiencing warmer-than-average nights.

Unseasonably warm isn't a good thing. It's a warning.

The immediate comfort of mild November weather is undeniable, making daily life easier. However, the underlying cause, being warm air from the south and overall climate change, suggests a future with more extreme and unpredictable weather patterns.
