Widespread Drone Attack Repelled by Russian Air Defense
On Monday, November 3, 2025, Russian air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed 64 Ukrainian attack drones across five regions of the Russian Federation, according to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense. The targeted regions included Rostov, Saratov, Volgograd, Belgorod, and Stavropol, indicating a broad and coordinated aerial assault.
The distribution of the downed drones was detailed as follows:
- 29 drones over the Rostov region
- 29 drones over the Saratov region
- 4 drones over the Volgograd region
- 1 drone over the Belgorod region
- 1 drone over the Stavropol region
Saratov Oil Refinery Hit in Latest Strike
The most significant impact of the overnight attacks was reported in the Saratov region, where Ukrainian drones struck the Saratov Oil Refinery. This incident marks the fourth time the refinery, owned by Rosneft and possessing an annual production capacity of 4.8 million metric tons, has been targeted this autumn. Residents in Saratov reported hearing explosions, and social media footage appeared to show a drone hitting the facility. While one drone reportedly failed to strike a pentane-hexane isomerization unit due to an anti-drone net, another successfully made an impact. Following the attacks, Saratov's airport was temporarily closed overnight but reopened early Monday morning.
Impacts and Broader Context in Other Regions
While the Saratov refinery sustained a direct hit, other regions also experienced the drone activity. In the Volgograd region, debris from downed drones ignited fires at energy sites, including a centralized heating plant and potentially the Lukoil-Korobkovsky gas processing plant. A cell tower in the Rudnyansky district was also damaged. The Ukrainian General Staff confirmed that its forces struck the Saratov oil refinery and other Russian logistics sites during the night.
Although specific damage from the single drones downed over Belgorod and Stavropol was not immediately detailed for this particular event, these regions have been frequent targets of Ukrainian drone attacks. Previous incidents in Stavropol have targeted industrial facilities such as the Stavrolen petrochemical plant and the Signal radio plant. Similarly, the Rostov region has previously reported damage to residential buildings and vehicles from drone debris.
These attacks are part of Ukraine's broader strategy to intensify long-range drone strikes against Russian oil and energy infrastructure. Kyiv aims to disrupt military fuel supplies, reduce Russia's export revenues, and bring the conflict's impact to Russian territory.

Another failed Ukrainian attack. They can't break our resolve.

Ukraine is successfully disrupting Russian logistics. Good on them!

The sheer volume of drones launched suggests a significant effort by Ukraine, yet Russia's ability to down most of them shows some defensive capability. However, even a few getting through can cause considerable disruption to vital facilities.

Reports of successful interceptions are good for Russian morale, but the confirmed damage to the Saratov refinery and other energy sites in Volgograd suggests these attacks are not entirely without effect. It's a cat-and-mouse game with real consequences.

Ukraine is getting desperate, throwing everything they have. It's not working.
