Nigeria Unveils NINAuth App to Revolutionize Digital Identity Management and Data Control

President Tinubu Launches Groundbreaking Digital ID App

Abuja, Nigeria – On Thursday, October 30, 2025, President Bola Tinubu officially unveiled the NINAuth App, a mobile-based identity authentication application developed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). The launch, held at the State House, Abuja, marks a significant stride in Nigeria's digital transformation journey, aiming to establish a credible, secure, and verifiable national identity management system.

President Tinubu emphasized that a robust national identity framework is fundamental to Nigeria's development aspirations, aligning with his administration's 'Renewed Hope Agenda'.

Empowering Nigerians with Data Autonomy

The core innovation of the NINAuth App lies in its consent-management platform, which grants Nigerians unprecedented control over their personal data. Speaking shortly after the launch, Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, the Director-General of NIMC, described NINAuth as 'a platform that restores data autonomy to Nigerians.' She further explained, 'It's a platform that allows user consent management, meaning Nigerians now have control over their own data.'

Users can now decide precisely what information they wish to share and with whom, across various sectors including banking, telecommunications, education, and health insurance. Crucially, the app allows individuals to revoke access to their data at any time, promoting transparency and digital privacy.

Key Features and Benefits of NINAuth

The NINAuth App is designed to streamline identity verification and enhance user experience through several key features:

  • Consolidated Digital Wallet: The application consolidates multiple identification credentials, such as driver's licenses, student loan IDs, health insurance cards, and bank verification numbers, into a single digital wallet.
  • Real-time Verification: It provides a secure, scalable, and interoperable interface for real-time authentication of National Identification Number (NIN) records, facilitating effective service delivery and database harmonization.
  • Elimination of Duplication: The app addresses the widespread issue of repetitive form-filling by enabling instant data verification through QR code scans.
  • Enhanced Security and User Control: Users receive real-time alerts whenever their NIN is accessed, can track data requests, and instantly approve or deny them. The platform requires explicit user consent before data is shared for Know Your Customer (KYC) processes.
  • Versatile Verification Methods: NINAuth supports online verification, in-person checks, and a 'Share Code' feature for secure, consent-based data sharing without exposing detailed personal information.

The app is readily available for download on both the Google Play Store and Apple iOS App Store.

Impact on Governance and Digital Transformation

President Tinubu highlighted that the NINAuth App will significantly reduce inefficiency, corruption, and duplication across government agencies, thereby improving service delivery and public trust. He stated that modernizing digital infrastructure is central to eliminating bottlenecks and ensuring citizens can access essential services without bureaucratic delays. The President also directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to integrate their operations with the NINAuth system for staff and data verification.

NIMC's Director-General, Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, noted that over 126.7 million Nigerians have already been enrolled in the national identity database, with approximately 25 million registrations recorded in the last two years and an average of 1.3 million verifications daily. This new app is expected to further strengthen financial inclusion, enhance social welfare delivery, bolster security, and generate accurate population data crucial for evidence-based planning.
