Prime Minister Modi Launches Asia's Premier Tech Event
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, October 8, 2025, inaugurated the 9th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025 at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in Dwarka, New Delhi. The inauguration, held at approximately 9:45 AM, marked the commencement of Asia's largest telecom, media, and technology event, which is scheduled to run until October 11, 2025.
The event is jointly organized by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI). This year's theme, 'Innovate to Transform,' underscores India's commitment to leveraging innovation for digital transformation and societal progress, aiming to bolster 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (self-reliant India) in telecom and digital technologies.
Key Focus Areas and Technological Advancements
IMC 2025 is set to showcase the latest advancements across a spectrum of emerging technologies. The primary focus areas include:
- The 6G ecosystem and the Bharat 6G Alliance
- Cybersecurity and cyber fraud prevention
- Satellite communications (Satcom)
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT)
- Telecom manufacturing and indigenous innovation
- Quantum communications, semiconductors in telecom, and optical networks
The event will feature over 1,600 new technology use-cases across these domains, including 5G/6G, smart mobility, and green technology. Union Minister for Communications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, highlighted that IMC 2025 would 'usher in a new paradigm for connectivity,' positioning telecommunications as the 'highway and pathway' for these advanced technologies.
Scale, Participation, and Global Collaboration
IMC 2025 is expected to draw significant international attention and participation. Organizers anticipate over 1.5 lakh (150,000) visitors, more than 7,000 global delegates from over 150 countries, and approximately 400 exhibitors spread across 4.5 lakh square feet of exhibition space. The congress will host over 100 sessions featuring more than 800 speakers, exploring transformative technologies and policy dialogues.
The event also includes several flagship summits and programs designed to foster innovation and collaboration:
- The International Bharat 6G Symposium
- The International AI Summit
- The Cyber Security Summit
- The Satcom Summit
- The IMC Aspire Programme, connecting startups with investors
- The Global Startup World Cup – India Edition
Official delegations from countries such as Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, Russia, Ireland, and Austria are expected, underscoring India's growing influence in global digital ecosystems. The event aims to position India as a worldwide tech hub and a leader in digital transformation.
