Deadly Shooting at Dallas ICE Facility
A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in Dallas, Texas, resulting in the deaths of two ICE detainees and injuries to one other individual. The suspected shooter was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Dallas Police Department responded to an 'assist officer' call around 6:40 AM local time in the 8100 block of North Stemmons Freeway, where the ICE facility is located. Preliminary investigations indicate that a sniper opened fire on the facility from an adjacent building.
Incident Details and Casualties
According to law enforcement, the shooter, described as a white male sniper armed with a rifle, was positioned on the roof of a nearby building, possibly an immigration attorney's office. He reportedly fired into the sally port area of the ICE office, a secure location where detainees are brought in for processing. As agents approached, the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Of the three people shot, two ICE detainees died, and the third person was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Dallas Police initially reported that one victim died at the scene, and two were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. All ICE agents and officers at the facility were accounted for and were not among the casualties.
Investigation Underway
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear and is currently under investigation by the Dallas Police Department, the FBI, and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons confirmed the shooting, noting that 'preliminary information is a possible sniper' was behind the attack. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem stated that while the motive is unknown, there has been an 'uptick of targeting of ICE agents' and 'unprecedented violence against them.'
This incident marks at least the third attack on an ICE or Border Patrol facility in Texas this year. The same Dallas ICE facility had also been the target of a bomb threat in August. Investigators are working to confirm the shooter's identity before releasing it to the public.

This incident highlights the dangerous reality of political extremism, but we also can't ignore the contentious role of ICE and the conditions within detention centers that fuel public anger. It's a complex issue with no easy answers.

This targeting of ICE is unacceptable. Law enforcement puts their lives on the line daily.

The immediate focus should be on the victims and the investigation, yet this also forces us to confront the heated rhetoric surrounding immigration and law enforcement. Both sides need to de-escalate.

While any loss of life is deplorable, especially for detainees who are vulnerable, it's also true that federal agencies like ICE are increasingly facing threats. We need to address both the violence and the underlying issues.

It's a terrible tragedy that people lost their lives, regardless of who they were. However, the constant targeting of federal buildings also raises serious questions about national security and political polarization.
