Tragic Incident Unfolds at CCH Sur
A tragic incident occurred on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the CCH Sur campus of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in the Coyoacán borough, Mexico City. A 16-year-old student, identified as Jesús Israel 'N', lost his life after being attacked with a bladed weapon. The alleged assailant, 19-year-old Lex Ashton 'N', also a student, was later apprehended by authorities.
According to preliminary investigations, the attack took place around 1:00 p.m.. Lex Ashton 'N' reportedly entered the campus with his face covered and attacked Jesús Israel 'N' in the school's parking lot.
Intervention and Apprehension of Suspect
During the assault, a 65-year-old administrative worker, identified as Armando 'N', attempted to intervene and restrain the attacker. In the process, the worker sustained injuries and was subsequently transported to a hospital for medical attention. He was later discharged.
Following the attack, the suspect, Lex Ashton 'N', attempted to flee. Reports indicate that he climbed a building on the campus and jumped from a second or third floor in an effort to escape. This fall resulted in fractures to both of his legs. He was then taken to a hospital where he remains under police custody.
Investigation and University Response
The Mexico City Attorney General's Office (FGJ-CDMX) has launched an investigation into the incident, classifying it as aggravated homicide and intentional injuries. Authorities are examining potential motives for the attack. Social media posts attributed to Lex Ashton 'N' hours before the event reportedly showed images of bladed weapons and other objects, along with a message stating, 'Scum is on a mission to pick up the trash.' He was also seen wearing a sweatshirt with the word 'Bloodbath'.
In response to the tragic events, UNAM confirmed the death of the student and the injury of the worker, stating that immediate protocols for cases of armed violence were activated. Classes at the CCH Sur campus have been suspended until further notice. The university has also offered legal and psychological support to the affected families.
Official Condolences and Calls for Justice
Officials have expressed their condolences and called for a thorough investigation. Clara Brugada, the Head of Government of Mexico City, lamented the events and confirmed collaboration between the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) and the FGJ-CDMX to clarify the case and ensure justice for the victims and their families. The Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado, also stated he is in communication with UNAM's rector to follow up on the case, emphasizing the commitment to eradicate violence in schools.
