China Hosts Global Public Security Cooperation Forum
China recently hosted the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum in Lianyungang, Jiangsu province, where it showcased advanced artificial intelligence (AI)-enhanced police equipment to officials from developing nations. The three-day event, themed 'Security Sharing, Development Integration,' served as a platform for China to present its latest public security technologies and share its experience in governance with international partners.
Cutting-Edge AI Technology on Display
Among the prominent displays were AI-assisted facial recognition surveillance devices and an intelligent command centre system. A key feature of this system was a body camera equipped with AI-assisted facial recognition capabilities. This technology allows the body camera to link with facial data of high-risk or sensitive individuals, use AI algorithms to identify facial features during patrols, issue immediate alerts, and simultaneously transmit information to a central command centre.
Beyond AI-enhanced bodycams, the exhibition featured a broad spectrum of advanced police equipment across five categories: criminal technology, police protective gear, vehicles, counterterrorism and rescue, and command and communication. Items included
- firearms
- motorcycles
- drones
- various protective gear
International Participation and Cooperation
The forum attracted a significant international presence, with officials from developing nations such as Belarus, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Nicaragua, and Ethiopia among the attendees. Organizers reported inviting over 800 guests and law enforcement officials from 176 countries and regions, as well as 14 international organizations, underscoring the event's global reach. Yu Bing, deputy director of the First Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security, stated that the showcase aimed to 'provide adaptive solutions to the security needs of different countries and regions.'
China's Commitment to Global Security
The Ministry of Public Security affirmed its intention to share China's 'experience' in public security governance and promote Chinese public security technology as high-quality services for countries worldwide. This initiative aligns with China's broader strategy of fostering police cooperation as a crucial element of its outreach and relations with developing countries. In previous forums, China has also committed to providing training for foreign law enforcement officers and deploying police advisers to assist countries in need, guiding joint patrols and investigations. The 2025 Global Public Security Cooperation Forum also addressed emerging threats like AI-driven crime and introduced an AI security indicator in its annual report, reflecting a comprehensive approach to modern security challenges.
