Union Minister Ajay Tamta Assesses Flood Damage in Himachal Pradesh Amidst Devastating Monsoon

On September 15, Union Minister Ajay Tamta traveled to Mandi and Kullu, two regions severely impacted by flooding, to assess the extensive damage. He was accompanied by Jairam Thakur, the Leader of the Opposition in the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly. The minister's visit followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tour of the region, which prompted the allocation of responsibilities to several central ministers for on-ground evaluations of the losses. Thakur emphasized the importance of this meeting, thanking the Prime Minister for valuable recommendations that will guide the relief efforts. The assessment report compiled by Tamta will be submitted to the central ministry and discussed in an upcoming high-level meeting.

The current monsoon season in Himachal Pradesh has been devastating, resulting in 404 fatalities since June 20. The State Disaster Management Authority confirmed that at least 229 deaths were linked to rainfall-induced disasters such as landslides, flash floods, drownings, and house collapses, while road accidents accounted for an additional 175 fatalities. The scale of destruction has been described as "unprecedented," with significant damage inflicted on homes, agricultural lands, and public infrastructure, leading to an estimated financial loss exceeding Rs 44,890 crore.

The detailed report revealed that rain-related incidents caused 229 deaths, including 48 from landslides and 11 from flash floods. Other statistics indicated that 462 individuals sustained injuries, with 41 still reported missing. The impact on livestock was severe, with thousands of animals and poultry lost. Public amenities have suffered extensively, including serious damage to roads, power supply networks, water systems, and educational institutions. As of the latest updates, many areas remain without essential services, with hundreds of transformers and water supply schemes rendered inoperative.

404 deaths. This is a tragedy. Are enough efforts being made to prevent future incidents?

The minister's presence shows the government takes the disaster seriously. I hope their report leads to effective action.

I'm tired of hearing about the damage. Show me what you are doing to help the people!

Modi's tour, then Tamta's. More talk, less action, as usual. Where are the resources and equipment?

I bet the ministers are only worried about their image. The real people are suffering.
