The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced a high alert in response to weather forecasts predicting rainfall in the region from September 15 to 19. Authorities have instructed local district administrations to remain vigilant in anticipation of possible emergencies.
According to a weather advisory, thunderstorms and rain are projected in various districts, including Dir, Chitral, Swat, and others throughout the province between September 16 and 19. The PDMA warns that these conditions may lead to heightened water levels in local drains and rivers, particularly affecting areas like Dir and Chitral.
The authority cautioned about the increased likelihood of landslides and potential damage to vulnerable infrastructure such as homes, electricity poles, and solar panels. Farmers, livestock owners, and tourists have been advised to relocate livestock to safer areas and steer clear of hazardous locations.
In related news, the impact of recent floods in South Punjab continues to be severe, with around 2.5 million people evacuated and significant loss of life reported. The PDMA has indicated that this response effort is one of the largest seen in recent times, utilizing over 1,500 rescue boats to evacuate residents from high-risk areas. Districts like Multan, Muzaffargarh, and Rahim Yar Khan were particularly hard hit, with entire communities left submerged and facing a critical humanitarian situation.

I appreciate the PDMA's proactive approach to warn us about the upcoming weather conditions.

Better to be safe than sorry! Thanks for keeping us informed, PDMA!

Why does it feel like we are always waiting for disaster rather than proactively preventing it?

This is just another way to distract us from the government's failure to manage disaster preparedness.

Did they even consider the impact on livelihoods? People can’t just relocate their livestock overnight!
