Chinese President Xi Jinping Addresses BRICS Summit on Global Cooperation

During a significant virtual summit of BRICS leaders, Xi Jinping, the President of China, highlighted the urgent need for BRICS countries to come together to tackle pressing global issues. He expressed concern about the rising tide of hegemonism, unilateralism, and protectionism that threaten the world economy and disrupt trade. In this context, he urged BRICS nations to embody principles of openness and inclusive cooperation, advocating for a unified stance in defending multilateralism and enhancing collaborative efforts within BRICS to create a shared future for humanity.

Xi presented three key initiatives aimed at strengthening multilateralism and international fairness. He stressed the necessity of upholding multilateralism as a means to achieve global peace and development while also advocating for reforms in the global governance system to boost representation for Global South countries. Furthermore, he underscored the importance of an open and cooperative international economic environment, asserting that economic globalization is an unstoppable force, requiring nations to collaborate rather than isolate themselves in a self-sufficient manner.

The Chinese leader also called for increased solidarity among BRICS nations, noting their substantial share of the world’s population and economic output. He emphasized that effective internal governance within BRICS countries would enhance their collective ability to confront external challenges. Xi reaffirmed China's readiness to enhance development initiatives and foster fruitful cooperation in various sectors, thereby solidifying the foundation of BRICS and providing tangible benefits to its member nations. By taking shared responsibility and supporting one another, he believes BRICS can navigate the complexities of the international landscape successfully.
