Ukrainian Drones Attack Major Russian Oil Refinery Amid Ongoing Conflict

Ukrainian forces have reportedly launched an attack using drones on one of Russia's largest oil production facilities, the Kirishi refinery, located in the northwestern Leningrad region. This incident aligns with a series of recent attacks aimed at degrading Russian oil infrastructure, which Ukraine claims is vital for sustaining Russia's military operations in the ongoing war. The refinery, managed by the Russian company Surgutneftegas, has a massive output, producing approximately 17.7 million metric tons, or 355,000 barrels per day, making it one of the top three refineries in Russia in terms of production capacity.

After the attack, Ukraine's General Staff confirmed there were explosions and visible flames at the facility, sharing images that depicted smoke filling the night sky. Local authorities reported that three drones involved in the strikes were intercepted in the Kirishi area, with debris from these drones hitting the plant and igniting a fire, although there were no reported injuries, and the fire was extinguished soon after. Russian officials have yet to release detailed information regarding the aftermath of the attack.

Simultaneously, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that at least 80 Ukrainian drones were intercepted over various regions in Russia, including Crimea and the Sea of Azov, as tensions rise and concerns grow that the conflict could extend beyond Ukraine. Despite being the second-largest oil exporter globally, Russia is experiencing gasoline shortages domestically, attributed to heightened demand and persistent Ukrainian drone assaults. Consequently, the government has enacted a temporary halt on gasoline exports, along with restrictions on sales to ensure local availability.

In addition to the drone strike, the Leningrad region has witnessed a tragic incident involving a derailed diesel locomotive, resulting in the driver's death due to injuries sustained during the derailment. An investigation into possible sabotage has been initiated. Furthermore, a bomb detonation along railway lines in the nearby Oryol region led to the deaths of three individuals, shedding light on the ongoing violence affecting Russian transport infrastructure amidst the conflict.

This is smart. Cripple their ability to fund the war machine.

This is just hurting ordinary Russian citizens. The Ukrainian government needs to think about the consequences.

Where are the Western leaders condemning attacks on civilian targets? This is hypocritical!

It's hard to see how this benefits anyone but the arms manufacturers.
