The Air Self-Defense Force's aerobatic team, Blue Impulse, is preparing to showcase its aerial skills. The team is set to perform a special exhibition flight over Tokyo to celebrate the opening of the World Athletics Championships. This event will highlight the team's precision and speed.
The upcoming performance will be the first time Blue Impulse has flown over the capital since the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. The Defense Ministry has announced the team's schedule, which includes a display over the National Stadium, the games' venue, starting at 12:25 p.m. The initial display is planned to last for 10 minutes.
Following the stadium flyover, the jets will embark on a 15-minute route, passing over several prominent Tokyo landmarks. The flight path will include the Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Station, Tokyo Tower, Shibuya Station, Yoyogi Park, and the Tokyo metropolitan government building. A rehearsal flight, originally scheduled for September 12, was canceled due to unfavorable weather conditions.
The Blue Impulse team utilizes Kawasaki T-4 jet trainer aircraft. Earlier this year, the unit was temporarily grounded following a fatal crash in Aichi Prefecture, which resulted in the loss of two crew members. While the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, the team has resumed training flights. They previously performed two exhibitions in July over the Osaka-Kansai Expo site.

This is not how we should celebrate a global event. We should focus on athletes, not jets.

Blue Impulse should rethink their performance. It just doesn't sit well with so many people.

Seems like a dangerous stunt, especially after the recent tragic crash. Is this really a good idea?

Honestly, I find this type of display embarrassing and outdated. We need innovation, not military shows!
