Robert Flynn, an American national aged 77, has been sentenced to nearly ten years in prison for a series of sexual assaults he committed over five decades ago in the UK. The events date back to the 1970s when Flynn, who was working in Rossendale, Lancashire, targeted a teenage boy. After returning to the US in 1976, Flynn became a registered sex offender due to a separate conviction in Ohio for attempted rape involving a young boy in 1997.
Following the victim's courageous decision to disclose the abuse to the Lancashire Police in 2021, authorities initiated an extradition process that lasted four years to bring Flynn back to the UK. After his arrival at Heathrow Airport in June, he pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent assault, resulting in a nine-year and eight-month prison sentence at Preston Crown Court. The investigating officer, Mick Cross, praised the victim's bravery for coming forward and expressed hope that justice would aid in the victim's recovery and encourage others to report similar crimes.
In an official statement, the victim—whose identity has been protected—shared how Flynn’s abuse has profoundly impacted his adult life. Nonetheless, with the support of friends and the legal system, he is now focused on rebuilding his life and finding happiness after the ordeal. Flynn, residing in Maple Heights, Ohio, must also comply with a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order following his sentencing.

50 years later? Unbelievable this monster was free for so long. Glad he's finally behind bars.
