Strong Performances Mark Day One of The International 2025 Playoffs

The inaugural day of the playoff stage for The International 2025, held in Hamburg, Germany, witnessed impressive wins from Xtreme Gaming, PARIVISION, Team Falcons, and BetBoom Team. Xtreme, PARIVISION, and Falcons demonstrated their dominance by sweeping their matches 2-0 in the upper-bracket quarterfinals, while BetBoom had to overcome a challenge from Nigma Galaxy, eventually winning 2-1. As a result of these defeats, Nigma Galaxy along with Tundra Esports, HEROIC, and Team Tidebound were relegated to the lower bracket.

The prestigious Dota 2 tournament commenced with a total of 16 competing teams, divided between eight that received invites and eight that emerged from regional qualifiers. However, as the tournament progressed into the double-elimination playoffs, this number was halved, with the playoffs scheduled to continue until Sunday. The quartet of winners from Thursday moved on to the upper-bracket semifinals, while the defeated teams will fight to advance through the lower bracket, needing to secure four consecutive wins to reach the grand final.

All matches during the playoffs are organized in a best-of-three format, culminating in a best-of-five grand final set for Sunday. With a base prize pool of $1.6 million, the amount is set to increase as 30 percent of supporter bundle sales contribute to the pot, which currently exceeds $2.6 million.

During Thursday's matches, Xtreme Gaming faced off against Tundra, clinching victories in 56 and 46 minutes, with player Wang 'Ame' Chunyu maintaining an impressive kills-deaths-assists ratio of 8.0-4.0-5.0. PARIVISION secured their wins against HEROIC in times of 52 minutes and 39 minutes, backed by Alan 'Satanic' Gallyamov of Russia, who posted an outstanding average K-D-A of 14.5-1.0-8.0. Meanwhile, Team Falcons took down Team Tidebound in 47 and 45 minutes, with Denmark’s Andreas 'Cr1t-' Nielsen achieving a solid 7.0-2.5-12.0 average K-D-A.

Nigma Galaxy began their series with an impressive 64-minute victory, but BetBoom made a decisive comeback, winning 44 minutes on red and 43 on green. Russian player Ivan 'Pure' Moskalenko led the charge for BetBoom on the critical third map, posting a K-D-A of 12-7-5, while each of his four teammates contributed significantly with at least 16 assists. The tournament continues on Friday with four more exciting matches scheduled.

Another year, another disappointment. The same teams just switch the years they do well.

BetBoom barely scraped by Nigma Galaxy. This doesn’t inspire confidence for their future matches.

Honestly, these matches felt stale. Same teams, same stories—where’s the excitement?
