Charlie Kirk, known for his conservative activism and alignment with Donald Trump, was tragically shot and killed on Wednesday while he was delivering a speech at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The incident occurred in front of an audience of approximately 3,000 people during a debate organized by his nonprofit, Turning Point USA.
The shooting took place around 12:20 PM, shortly after Kirk began addressing questions from the crowd about gun violence. Witnesses reported that he was shot in the neck, and initial accounts indicated that the suspected shooter was positioned on the roof of the Losee Center, which is around 125 meters from where Kirk was speaking. Following the gunfire, people in attendance were seen taking cover and fleeing the area.
Law enforcement, including federal, state, and local agencies, are currently searching for the suspect, who reportedly jumped off the roof after the act and escaped the campus. On Thursday, the FBI released images of a person they consider of interest, although they have not confirmed whether this individual is the shooter. They also mentioned that various pieces of evidence, including a high-powered rifle found nearby and impressions left at the scene, are being analyzed to aid in the investigation. Two individuals were detained but later released after authorities determined they were not connected to the shooting.

Acknowledging the loss doesn't mean ignoring the fact that he encouraged hate and division.
