Tom Homan, appointed as the border czar, has taken a firm stance against claims made by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, who argues that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is mistakenly apprehending non-criminals during its raids. This dispute surfaces as ICE initiates Operation Midway Blitz in Illinois, an operation intended to capture criminal illegal immigrants. Homan, speaking on "Fox & Friends," suggested that if Pritzker wants to minimize what he deems "collateral arrests," then allowing ICE access to jails would be a more effective strategy to apprehend criminals without releasing them back into society.
Governor Pritzker remains opposed to any increased ICE presence in Illinois, even with the commencement of the Department of Homeland Security's Operation Midway Blitz. The DHS has connected their operation to the state’s sanctuary policies, claiming these attract criminal behavior; however, Pritzker disputes that assertion, advocating for the protection of residents he considers law-abiding. He emphasizes that many individuals targeted by ICE raids are long-standing members of the community who have been residing in the country for decades, contributing positively by working, raising families, and paying taxes.
Homan rejects Pritzker's defense and points out that entering the country illegally constitutes a violation of the law, which can be classified as either a federal misdemeanor or a civil infraction. He asserted that individuals who breach immigration regulations are undermining those who are following the legal path to citizenship, involving background checks and application fees. He stresses that ICE is committed to removing the most dangerous offenders from society, including those with serious criminal ties, despite the opposition from Illinois officials.
Chicago's Mayor Brandon Johnson aligns with Pritzker, condemning ICE operations in the city and raising concerns about due process and wrongful arrests. However, Homan maintains that the agency’s priority is to target high-risk individuals, citing past arrests of several violent criminals. He concluded with a declaration that ICE would persist in its enforcement efforts across the nation, and urged local leaders who oppose the actions to step aside and allow the agency to carry out its mission.

Finally, someone's calling out the sanctuary city policies that are letting criminals roam free!

Collateral arrests"? That's just a euphemism for harming innocent people and tearing families apart.

This "Operation Midway Blitz" sounds like a thinly veiled attempt to intimidate and scare immigrants.

Where's the due process? Where's the respect for human rights?

The fact that ICE is targeting people who have lived in the country for decades speaks volumes about their priorities.
