Authorities are actively investigating the shooting death of conservative speaker Charlie Kirk, which occurred on Wednesday. They have collected a home surveillance camera that may provide crucial evidence in their pursuit of the suspected assassin. A resident of the home believes their camera captured the person of interest in a neighbor's backyard.
Law enforcement, including police and agents from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, were present at the home. One agent removed the entire floodlight unit, which included a home security camera. The FBI has released photos of a "person of interest" in connection with the assassination.
Erwin Steele and his family own several properties on West Street in Orem. One of these properties is adjacent to Utah Valley University's Campus Drive, separated by a chain fence. Steele believes the suspect crossed onto one of his family's properties.
Steele's brother owns the surveillance camera that authorities confiscated on Thursday. The camera reportedly recorded a single individual running through backyards on the block following the shooting. The street is near a wooded area where investigators previously recovered a rifle. Steele believes the suspect ran down an alleyway, discarded the weapon, bypassed the fence, and then ran through his family's properties.
Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old father of two, was shot and killed on Wednesday afternoon while speaking in the courtyard at UVU. The event was organized by the campus chapter of Turning Point USA, a national conservative group founded by Kirk.
Investigators recovered a "high-powered, bolt-action rifle" along the suspect's presumed escape route, according to FBI Salt Lake City Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls. The FBI has released two images of a man in black, identifying him as a "person of interest." They have also found a palm print, footprint, and forearm imprint.
Witness videos show people reacting in horror and seeking cover after Kirk was shot in the neck. He was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead. Other videos appear to show a dark-clad figure on a rooftop. Authorities believe the gunshot originated from approximately 200 yards away, likely from the Losee Center building.

The fact this involves a 'conservative speaker' should make people suspicious. They want the opposite side to be guilty.

I'm sure the mainstream media's reporting will be biased. It's always about the politics.

Hope the evidence from the rifle and palm print provides a key lead. Prayers for justice!

Why is the FBI so heavily involved? Seems like a disproportionate response, even for a high-profile case.

Hopefully, they catch the murderer quickly. Sending thoughts to the Kirk family.

So brave of Mr. Steele to cooperate with the investigation. Very thankful for that camera.

No matter your political views, violence like this is never acceptable. Condolences to the family.
