Harris criticizes the perceived "recklessness" of leaving the decision solely to the former president and first lady. She recalls the common refrain within the administration, "It's Joe and Jill's decision," and questions whether this approach was a matter of grace or recklessness, given the high stakes involved. She felt the decision should have been more than a personal one.

Harris also considered whether she should have advised the president against running again. However, she acknowledged that, as vice president, she was in the most unfavorable position to make such a suggestion, fearing it would appear self-serving.

The book further reveals Harris's criticism of the president's team, alleging that his inner circle often failed to defend her against unfair attacks. She claims that the staff contributed to negative narratives surrounding her, including the perception of a "chaotic" office.

Despite her criticisms, Harris offers some defense of Biden's capabilities as president, while acknowledging his fatigue. She asserts that even on his worst days, he possessed greater knowledge, judgment, and compassion than Donald Trump at his best. She clarifies that her observations were not based on a belief in Biden's incapacity, emphasizing her loyalty to her country above all else.

Harris, now 60, recently announced that she would not be running for governor of California next year, sparking speculation about a potential presidential bid in 2028. Her book is slated for release on September 23rd.
