Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced that David Miller will miss the upcoming three-match T20I series due to a right hamstring strain. The injury occurred during the final week of the Hundred tournament, where he was playing for the Northern Superchargers. Despite efforts to recover in time, Miller will be unable to participate in the series, which begins at Sophia Gardens.
South Africa has chosen not to replace Miller, leaving the squad led by Aiden Markram with a 14-member team. Miller was included in the ODI phase of the England tour but did not play in the series, which South Africa won 2-1. The experienced batter has not played for the Proteas in international cricket since the Champions Trophy earlier this year. He also missed the white-ball tour to Australia last month due to his involvement in the Hundred.
In other news, South Africa has added former Proteas all-rounder Albie Morkel to the T20I support staff as a bowling consultant for the series. Morkel has a wealth of experience, having played in 50 T20I matches and regularly participated in the Indian Premier League.
Prior to the 50-over fixtures in England, captain Temba Bavuma confirmed that Miller remains in contention for the 2027 ODI World Cup despite his recent absences. Bavuma explained that Miller's unavailability during the Hundred was due to contractual obligations. He clarified that Miller is still considered for the ODI format.

Unfortunate for Miller, hoping for a speedy recovery. But this leaves a big gap in the middle order.

Unfortunate timing for Miller. Hope he recovers soon, but let's be honest, he's getting older and more fragile.
