On Tuesday, Israel launched an airstrike in Doha, Qatar, targeting a building used by senior Hamas officials. Israeli authorities stated the attack was an attempt to assassinate leaders of the group.
Hamas reported that the attack occurred while its delegation was discussing a new ceasefire proposal presented by the U.S. President. The group stated that the negotiating team survived, but six others were killed. The victims included individuals associated with Hamas and a member of Qatar's Internal Security Force.
Israeli authorities did not immediately confirm the identities of those killed. They stated the strike targeted Hamas leaders "directly responsible for the Oct. 7 massacre" and used "precise munitions and intelligence" to limit civilian harm. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed full responsibility for the operation.
The White House reported that the Trump administration was informed of the impending attack and that a special envoy was directed to inform Qatar. However, Qatar denied having prior knowledge, stating that the call from a U.S. official came during the attack. Qatar condemned the strike as a violation of its sovereignty and suspended ongoing negotiations.
Eyewitnesses reported explosions and smoke over Doha. Qatar's Interior Ministry stated the site was secured and the situation was safe. An Israeli official said more than a dozen warplanes participated, dropping at least ten bombs. Preparations for the strike had been ongoing for months and were accelerated following attacks in Jerusalem and Gaza.
The attack drew widespread international condemnation. The UN Secretary-General condemned the strike as a violation of Qatar's sovereignty. Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt, Jordan, Trkiye, and the Arab League also condemned the attacks.
The Hostages and Missing Families Forum expressed deep concern, stating the attack made the return of hostages more uncertain. Family members of hostages expressed fear and accused Netanyahu of potentially sabotaging a deal.

Justice for the victims of October 7th. Israel is doing what is necessary.

Netanyahu's actions are making a deal for hostages much more difficult. Purely political at this point.

The hypocrisy here is astounding. Claiming to protect civilians while openly bombing a civilian area.

Netanyahu is showing strength and resolve. It's time to end this once and for all.

The international community needs to take action. Condemnation is not enough.
