A shocking report released recently details the unethical practices of Danish doctors who placed intrauterine devices (IUDs) in Greenlandic girls, some as young as 12, without obtaining their consent or informing them about the procedures. In addition to IUD implantation, there are accounts of women receiving injections that they claim have rendered them infertile permanently. Victims who reported experiencing intense pain were often met with indifference from medical professionals, leading some individuals to take the drastic step of removing the IUDs themselves.
This report, which was published on a Tuesday, draws on a wealth of information including personal testimonies, medical records, and historical documentation. Out of 410 detailed cases examined, a startling 349 indicated various health complications tied to the contraceptive practices. The troubling history dates back to when Denmark colonized Greenland over three hundred years ago, and the island remains a Danish overseas territory. During the 1960s and 1970s, and to a lesser extent in subsequent decades, Danish medical practitioners implanted IUDs in thousands of Greenlandic women and girls, frequently bypassing consent. Danish officials have since acknowledged this coercive policy as a grievous mistake.

People need to take personal responsibility too, instead of blaming doctors.

It’s about time that Denmark acknowledges its dark past. This is an important issue.

Danish society should reflect on this and take responsibility for its colonial past.

I’m horrified to hear about these practices. Victims deserve justice and support.

Statistics can be misleading. 410 cases out of how many? It's not representative.
