A violent confrontation erupted at a shopping center in Kildare on Sunday, involving feuding Irish Traveller families. The incident prompted concerns from the Irish Garda police regarding potential serious consequences. A teenager sustained a non-life-threatening stomach wound and was subsequently hospitalized.
Shoppers were horrified as they witnessed the brawl, with some attempting to distance themselves from the fighting. The altercation, which reportedly involved knives, began around 3:30 pm. A video of the incident, lasting approximately 45 seconds, shows three bare-chested men outside the shopping center entrance, seemingly provoking each other. Punches were thrown, and the fight then moved inside the building.
Sources suggest that Stanley knives were used during the fight. The bare-chested men continued to fight in front of shocked onlookers. One man, wearing blue shorts, was seen on an escalator with blood streaming from his stomach. Another individual used a floor mop to strike him. The injured man managed to escape by walking up the "down" escalator. Voices could be heard shouting, "We got him," and "Come back down," before the footage ended.
Sources indicated that the group involved was not from the local area and that the attack appeared to be planned. The individuals involved seemed to have no regard for the safety of those around them. There are now fears of serious repercussions following this incident.
The injured man received stitches at Naas General Hospital. No arrests have been made, and the Gardaí are continuing their investigation. They are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
An Garda Siochana issued a statement regarding the assault, which occurred on Main Street, Newbridge, Co. Kildare. They were alerted to the incident at a commercial premises around 3:30 pm. The Gardaí are requesting that any witnesses, including those with camera footage, contact Newbridge Garda Station, the Garda Confidential Line, or any Garda Station with information. Investigations are ongoing.

We should focus on finding solutions rather than condemning families involved—dialogue may help prevent future incidents.

With the right support, feuding families can find resolution peacefully. We need community-building efforts, not condemnation.

I hope the Gardaí find those responsible soon. We cannot let thugs roam free in our neighborhood.

It's so sad to see such destruction over what? Whatever the reason, it doesn't justify such behavior.

Awful to see families resorting to violence like this. It’s embarrassing for the entire community.

This reflects poorly on the Travellers’ community. They need to step up and distance themselves from such actions!
