Tom Homan, who serves as the Border Czar, engaged in a contentious discussion with Mika Brzezinski, a co-host of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," regarding the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Brzezinski questioned Homan about alleged "disappearances" of individuals during ICE operations and pressed him to provide data supporting his claim that 70% of targeted immigrants had criminal histories—an assertion previously noted by the Trump administration. However, she pointed out reports from The Associated Press indicating that a significant number of those targeted had no criminal records.
In response, Homan criticized Brzezinski’s language, labeling the notion of "disappearances" as absurd and defending ICE's practices as consistent with decades of law enforcement. He argued that the agency had been restrained in its enforcement capabilities during the past four years, suggesting that they are now resuming their intended operations. Homan asserted that ICE agents are taking targeted actions against individuals who pose public safety risks and that they operate based on thorough case files.
Homan also directed criticism towards the Biden administration, specifically referencing the tenure of former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. He reiterated that ICE is simply enforcing laws enacted by Congress and emphasized the importance of the work being done by ICE agents, highlighting that their families face threats due to the perception of their work. In addition, Homan announced plans for increased workplace immigration enforcement actions, reminiscent of recent operations, such as the raid on a Hyundai plant in Georgia, where many of the individuals detained were reportedly South Korean nationals who were in the U.S. unlawfully.

It's outrageous that he dismisses the disappearances as 'absurd.' People’s lives are at stake!

Resuming harsh tactics doesn’t make ICE's practices right; it only shows their lack of compassion.

Brzezinski is right to challenge him. His justification for ICE operations is weak and flawed.

Homan thinks he’s a law enforcer, but he’s just propagating fear and division in America.

ICE operations aren't just about enforcement; they create fear in communities. Homan is out of touch.

The complaints about ICE only show how some people prioritize feelings over safety.
