The Atlanta Falcons added kicker John Parker Romo to their practice squad on Tuesday. This move followed a missed game-tying field goal by Younghoe Koo in the closing moments of their recent loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Koo had previously been successful with a field goal earlier in the game, which bounced off the upright.
The Falcons also have Lenny Krieg, an international player, on their practice squad, providing them with a third kicker. In a related move, the team released edge rusher Ronnie Perkins, who is 25 years old, from the practice squad.
Romo, who had been in training camp with the New England Patriots, was among several kickers who worked out for the Falcons on Tuesday. Last season, the 28-year-old Romo had a strong performance with the Minnesota Vikings, successfully making 11 of 12 field goal attempts and 7 of 8 extra points.
Koo, who is 31, has experienced some recent struggles, missing six field goals in his last six games. Despite this, Koo was a Pro Bowl selection in 2020 and has a career field goal success rate of 85.8 percent, along with 175 successful extra point attempts out of 182.
Following the missed field goal, Koo expressed his frustration but also his determination to improve. He acknowledged the need to adjust and learn from the experience, emphasizing his commitment to getting back to work.

Kicking woes are part of the game, but bringing in Romo instead of helping Koo is just wrong.

Just because Romo had a good season last year doesn’t mean he’ll replicate that with Atlanta.

Romo may have been good with the Vikings, but it doesn’t mean he’ll succeed here. We should trust Koo.

Romo did great with the Vikings, so why not give him a chance? Best of luck to him!

Koo has had a few rough games, but replacing him with Romo won’t magically fix our problems.
