Afghanistan began their Asia Cup campaign with a dominant 94-run victory over Hong Kong in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. Sediqullah Atal and Azmatullah Omarzai, the latter achieving the fastest T20I half-century for Afghanistan, were key contributors with the bat, significantly boosting Afghanistan's score in the final overs. Gulbadin Naib and Fazalhaq Farooqi each took two wickets for Afghanistan.
In response to Afghanistan's score of 189, Hong Kong struggled, quickly falling to 22/4 in the first 4.3 overs. Babar Hayat and Kinchit Shah attempted to revive the chase, but Kinchit was soon dismissed. Hayat managed to score 39 runs before being caught out.
Hong Kong's innings continued to decline as Rashid Khan and Gulbadin Naib took wickets. Hong Kong's innings concluded at 94/9 in their 20 overs, with Ayush Shukla and Ateeq Iqbal remaining not out. Naib and Farooqi were the standout bowlers for Afghanistan.
Earlier in the match, Azmatullah Omarzai set a new record for the fastest fifty in T20Is for Afghanistan. After Afghanistan found themselves at 110/4, Omarzai's aggressive batting changed the game's momentum. He reached his half-century in just 20 balls, surpassing Mohammad Nabi's previous record.
Omarzai's explosive batting, which included multiple boundaries, helped Afghanistan score 78 runs in the last five overs, finishing with a total of 188/6. Hong Kong's fielding errors, including five dropped catches, contributed to Afghanistan's strong finish. Sediqullah Atal scored an unbeaten 73, while Mohammed Nabi added 33 runs. Kinchit Shah and Ayush Shukla were the leading wicket-takers for Hong Kong.

Meh. Expected result. Hong Kong is not a strong team. Need to see Afghanistan play against tougher competition.
