Rupa Bayor, an accomplished taekwondo athlete from India, has recently won a bronze medal in the Female Individual Recognised Poomsae (18-30 years) category at the Australian Open WT G2 International Taekwondo Championship 2025, which took place in Gold Coast, Australia. This victory not only adds to her impressive portfolio but also marks her third consecutive medal at this prestigious event, highlighting her consistent performance in the sport.
Throughout the competition, Rupa exhibited remarkable prowess, securing decisive victories against competitors from countries like Chinese Taipei, Australia, and the United States en route to the semi-finals. Her journey took a challenging turn when she faced off against an athlete from Hong Kong in a tightly contested match, ultimately preventing her from reaching the final round. Expressing her thoughts on the experience, Rupa shared that her participation at the Australian Open has been rewarding, allowing her to compete against top-tier players and gain invaluable exposure.
Originating from Arunachal Pradesh, Rupa has established herself as a significant presence in the world of Indian taekwondo. She trains at the Indo-Korean Taekwondo Academy in Navi Mumbai under the mentorship of Coach Abhishek Dubey. Her early recognition came with a medal at the South Asian Games, and she has since achieved groundbreaking milestones, including winning gold at the 2023 World Taekwondo President's Cup Europe in Istanbul, thus becoming the first Indian to achieve this in a WT Grade 2 Ranked Senior 1 Poomsae event. Additionally, Rupa earned a bronze medal at the 8th Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Vietnam, marking India's first senior-level achievement in the recognised poomsae category.
Rupa's success further propelled her into the World Top 10 Poomsae Ranking in 2024, a historic feat for Indian taekwondo. With her recent inclusion in India's Target Asian Games Group (TAGG), she is currently gearing up for the 2026 Asian Games and the World Taekwondo Championships in Hong Kong, motivated to continue her impressive trajectory and bring further honor to her nation.

Can we please look at her competitors before praising this win? They might not be that great.

This feels more like a PR stunt rather than genuine success.
