According to two unnamed officials from the White House, President Trump is investigating the option of federal oversight for the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. This move comes in response to growing criticism from some families of September 11 victims concerning the site’s financial situation and management practices. The talks are still at an early stage, making it uncertain how the federal government could implement control over the memorial located in Lower Manhattan.
Previously, when Trump was a candidate, he hinted at potentially designating the site as a national monument, emphasizing the importance of preserving it as a sacred place of remembrance for those who lost their lives in the attacks. However, the current leadership of the museum has rejected the notion of federal takeover, with President and CEO Beth Hillman stating that it would be illogical for the government to absorb the complete operating costs of the site while it is also attempting to reduce expenditures.

They can't even agree on the best solution, let alone see through the project... I am afraid of what is to come.

Are we going to see endless 'patriotic' propaganda and whitewashing? It's a museum, not a PR exercise.

The museum is facing financial difficulties and the government is not ready to take over. I'm sure we can find a different solution.

The 9/11 Memorial is a national treasure, and it deserves federal protection and funding.

I think the Federal government has a bad track record of mismanagement. I do not trust them to be managing this museum.
