On Wednesday, President Trump suggested the potential deployment of National Guard troops to New Orleans. This addition expanded the list of Democratic-led cities where he had previously threatened to send troops, despite recent decreases in crime rates.
However, New Orleans differs from the other cities mentioned, such as Chicago, New York, and Baltimore. Unlike those locations, New Orleans is situated in a state governed by a Republican, Governor Jeff Landry. Governor Landry has expressed his openness to federal law enforcement assistance.
During a conversation with reporters at the White House on Wednesday, Mr. Trump stated that a decision was being made. He questioned whether to send troops to Chicago, where city and state leaders had cautioned against such a move, or to New Orleans, where Governor Landry was supportive of federal intervention.
Governor Landry subsequently shared a news clip of the exchange on social media. He indicated that Louisiana would welcome the president's assistance, extending the offer "from New Orleans to Shreveport!
