The German Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, also shared details about the discussions, emphasizing the progress in strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations. They exchanged views on global developments, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Wadephul noted the positive steps taken to expand the strategic partnership, particularly in areas such as security and defense, economy and trade, and skilled labor. He also expressed appreciation for India's call for a ceasefire in Ukraine.
Earlier in the day, the German Foreign Minister held bilateral talks with India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar. They emphasized the importance of maintaining India's strategic relationships with various countries, recognizing the dynamics of global politics.
During a press briefing, the German Foreign Minister welcomed Prime Minister Modi's recent discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the SCO summit. He acknowledged Prime Minister Modi's emphasis on the need for a swift peace agreement in Ukraine. He also noted the importance of open discussions between India and Europe, even when viewpoints differ. The minister highlighted the significance of peace for security, freedom, and prosperity.
During the SCO summit, Prime Minister Modi and President Putin discussed strengthening the India-Russia strategic partnership, including the latest developments concerning Ukraine.
The German Foreign Minister's official visit to India took place from September 1st to 3rd. This was his first official visit to India in his current capacity. The two sides also discussed the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the situation in the Middle East, cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, and other regional and global issues. They are also working towards establishing a new bilateral consultation mechanism on the Indo-Pacific region.
