Tony de Zorzi has been ruled out of the remainder of South Africa's ODI series against England due to a hamstring injury. The injury occurred during the first match in Leeds. While fielding at the boundary, he dived to prevent a boundary, successfully pushing the ball back into play but injuring his hamstring in the process.
De Zorzi left the field for treatment and did not return for the remainder of the innings. South Africa won the match, chasing down a target of 132 runs. He will return home for scans to assess the severity of the injury.
Cricket South Africa has decided not to name a replacement for De Zorzi. He had been a reserve player, filling in for Matthew Breetzke, who was recovering from a left hamstring injury. Breetzke missed the last ODI against Australia and the first match against England.
It is anticipated that Breetzke has recovered and could potentially return to the team in the second ODI.
In addition to De Zorzi's injury, there is no update regarding Kagiso Rabada, who missed the ODIs in Australia due to an ankle injury and was also absent from the first ODI in Leeds. Codi Yusuf has been recalled to the South Africa squad.
Captain Temba Bavuma is also a concern, undergoing workload management after an injury sustained during the World Test Championship final. Bavuma played in two ODIs against Australia and the opening match against England and is expected to miss one of the remaining two matches.
