The FIFA Capacity Building Workshop aimed at female football administrators has officially started in New Delhi, as announced by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). This three-day event began with opening remarks from Deputy Secretary General M. Satyanarayan and included addresses from FIFA specialists Simon Toselli, Natcha Tarateerasarn, and Pema Tshering, who captains Bhutan's women’s national team. Among the attendees were former and current players and coaches such as Ashalata Devi, Bembem Devi, and Crispin Chettri, alongside AIFF Women’s Committee member Shabana Rabbani.
Over the workshop's duration, approximately 50 female administrators representing various sectors including Indian Women's League clubs and State Associations will participate in sessions facilitated by Toselli, Tarateerasarn, and Tshering. Deputy Secretary General M. Satyanarayan noted India’s current rank of 12th in Asia for women's football and expressed confidence that the women's team would qualify for a World Cup before the men's team. He also shared that the AIFF is working with FIFA to establish India’s first Women's Football Academy in Hyderabad, expected to begin within a month.
FIFA expert Simon Toselli emphasized FIFA's commitment to supporting AIFF, mentioning that the collaboration would include financial backing and technical expertise in football development. Meanwhile, Senior women’s national team coach Crispin Chettri discussed the significance of teamwork and the collective effort required in training. Moreover, Joakim Alexandersson, who coached the U20 and U17 women's teams, highlighted the value of instilling responsibility among players during training sessions to foster their growth and teamwork.

I can't see how a few days of workshops will address the systemic issues facing women's football.

Why should we believe anything will change when AIFF has done so little in the past?

Workshops like this can help build a solid foundation for future female leaders in football.

Hosting workshops won’t change the fact that women's football still gets less attention and funding.

I doubt this workshop will lead to any meaningful change in India's women's football narrative.
