Russian President Vladimir Putin, concluding a four-day visit to China, addressed the media about the ongoing situation with Ukraine. He stated that while Russia does not object to the idea of offering security guarantees to Ukraine, it is essential that these assurances do not jeopardize the security of other nations, especially Russia itself. The Kremlin continues to uphold its position against Ukraine joining NATO, although Putin mentioned a potential acceptance of Ukraine’s membership in the European Union.
Putin refuted assertions that discussions related to "security guarantees in exchange for territories" were held in his recent meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska. Clarifying Russia's stance, he emphasized that the main concern is not territorial gains but rather protecting the rights of people in those areas to preserve their language, culture, and traditions. He pointed out that citizens in regions like Crimea, and the Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye, and Kherson areas had voted significantly in favor of joining Russia, a process he regarded as a demonstration of democracy.
He acknowledged the genuine commitment from President Trump to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, suggesting that there might be a hopeful path forward. Furthermore, Putin expressed his willingness to meet with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, even in the Russian capital, but raised doubts about Zelensky's legitimacy as leader, given that his presidential term concluded last May, and elections have not been held due to martial law conditions.

Zelensky's legitimacy questioned? After Russia has destroyed his country? The audacity is astounding!

This is just a delaying tactic. He wants a frozen conflict, not peace. He's playing games.

He's still lying about the territorial ambitions. Everyone sees what's happening. This is just a PR smokescreen.

Russia's claims of a democratic process are understandable. They need to protect their citizens.

He's open to Ukraine in the EU, that’s a step forward. A peaceful solution seems possible.

Putin trying to make it seem like it's not about land, but protecting the people. What people? The ones he bombs? He's grasping for straws.

Good to see the focus on protecting the people and their culture. These areas have a right to self-determination.

Finally a sensible view! Security for Russia is paramount. Ukraine joining NATO would be incredibly dangerous!
