In response to Lai Ching-te's remarks at the "Ketagalan Forum," a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, Zhu Fenglian, stated that Lai's adherence to "Taiwan independence" and his reliance on external forces and military means were deeply concerning. Zhu characterized Lai's rhetoric as a deliberate attempt to exaggerate the "mainland threat" and promote a false narrative of "democracy versus authoritarianism," ultimately revealing him as a threat to peace.
Zhu further criticized Lai's actions since taking office, including the suppression of those supporting cross-Straits relations and the aggressive promotion of "decoupling" from the mainland. She accused Lai of using the guise of "democracy" to advance the separatist cause and of escalating tensions in the Taiwan Straits through increased military spending and the push for "everyone-a-soldier." Zhu argued that these actions disregarded the economic and livelihood issues on the island, harming its interests and weakening its economy.
According to Zhu, the current tensions in the Taiwan Straits stem from the provocations of the Lai authorities and their collaboration with external forces in pursuit of "independence." She issued a stern warning to the Lai authorities, emphasizing that betraying the motherland would lead to historical judgment and that "Taiwan independence" would ultimately result in self-destruction.
Zhu concluded by asserting that the trend of national reunification is unstoppable and that all attempts to hinder it are destined to fail.

I completely agree with Zhu. Taiwan needs to recognize the consequences of pushing for independence from China.

Lai’s military spending is concerning. We need cooperation with the mainland, not confrontation.

Reunification is not just inevitable; it’s beneficial for both sides. We need to find a way to work together.

The push for 'independence' only brings risk to Taiwan's future. We should listen to Zhu's warnings!

It’s outright dangerous to label anyone as a threat to peace just for advocating Taiwan's independence. We deserve freedom.

Zhu's emphasis on economic stability is crucial. We can’t afford to ignore the realities of cross-Straits relations.

The claim that Taiwan independence is a 'separatist cause' ignores the right of individuals to self-determine their future.
