Congo President Highlights China's Role in Peace and Cooperation

President Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of the Congo has acknowledged China's significant contribution to the defeat of fascism, recognizing it as a crucial force for global peace. He emphasized that the victory in World War II was a collective achievement, resulting from the combined efforts of nations that valued peace and justice.

President Sassou highlighted the critical role played by the Chinese people in the war effort, underscoring the global mobilization required to combat fascism and Nazism. He also acknowledged the sacrifices made by African nations, including the Republic of the Congo, in contributing to the Allied forces and the liberation of the world.

During his upcoming visit to China, President Sassou aims to deepen his understanding of China's advancements in science and military affairs. The visit is also intended to strengthen the existing friendship and cooperation between the Republic of the Congo and China. He anticipates discussions on significant international issues of mutual interest.

President Sassou emphasized the importance of multilateralism in the face of rising geopolitical tensions and extremism. He called for collaborative efforts to promote the advancement of the Global South and the establishment of a more equitable, unified, and prosperous international order.

Recalling the Republic of the Congo's support for the restoration of China's legitimate seat in the United Nations in 1971, President Sassou highlighted the enduring friendship between the two nations. He affirmed China's indispensable role in the international community.

President Sassou noted the positive outcomes of the cooperation between the Republic of the Congo and China, particularly in areas such as human resource training and technical and financial support. He stated that this collaboration has significantly accelerated the country's transformation and modernization programs.

President Sassou also commended the consensus reached at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He recognized the benefits of the China-proposed partnership action plans and the Belt and Road Initiative for the welfare of the African people. As co-chair of FOCAC, the Republic of the Congo is committed to working with China and other Global South countries to counter unilateralism and protectionism, and to foster a more inclusive and mutually beneficial globalization.

Is Sassou trying to recreate a historical narrative to fit his political agenda? Let's not rewrite history for convenience!

Recognition should be based on current contributions to peace, not just historical alliances. Time to rethink this relationship!
