The Indian Women's Hockey Team departed for Hangzhou, China, on Saturday to prepare for the upcoming Women's Asia Cup 2025. The team is composed of 20 players.
The team will be led by Captain Salima Tete. The team's goal is to win the tournament, which would secure India's place in the FIH Women's Hockey World Cup 2026.
Salima Tete emphasized the importance of the tournament, stating that it is a chance to qualify for the World Cup. The team's initial focus is on winning their pool and advancing to the Super Fours. From there, they will approach each game with the aim of winning the trophy.
India is in Pool B and will compete against Japan, Thailand, and Singapore in the group stage. Their first match will be against Thailand on September 5, followed by a game against Japan on September 6. They will conclude the group stage with a match against Singapore on September 8.
India has previously won the Women's Asia Cup twice, in 2004 and 2017. In the previous edition of the tournament, the team finished in third place.
