a plane's engine erupting in flames shortly after takeoff. The incident occurred in Corfu, where a jet's engine emitted fire just seconds after leaving the runway. Niklas Leonhardt, a 20-year-old German tourist, filmed the dramatic scene. He was renting a car near the runway's end and witnessed the plane's ascent.
As flames emerged from the engine on August 28, Mr. Leonhardt began recording the aircraft, which was en route to Brno in the Czech Republic. He reported hearing loud bangs soon after the plane became airborne. The footage shows bursts of fire flashing from the right-hand engine as the plane climbed, surprising those watching from the ground. Mr. Leonhardt noted that people were confused, and the police began clearing the area near the runway. The pilot was compelled to make an emergency landing at Aktion Airport in Preveza, approximately 45 minutes away. The flight was operated by Smartwings.
This incident in Corfu follows other recent aviation events. News of the engine fire emerged after a mid-air collision involving two small planes over an airport in Colorado. Four individuals were feared dead in that incident. Additionally, an F16 crashed in a ball of fire during Poland's Radom Air Show, resulting in the pilot's death, as confirmed by Poland's Minister of Special Services.

I'm not sure what's scarier, the engine fire or the realization this might have been another one

Scary incident, but at least the plane made it to the ground. Safety is the priority.

This highlights the importance of regular maintenance and pre-flight checks.
