The recently uncovered CIA documents shed light on Argentina's alarming intentions to eliminate hundreds of British citizens right before the outbreak of the Falklands War. Dictator General Leopoldo Galtieri was noted to have advanced plans that involved possibly executing 500 British nationals and over a hundred staff members of the US embassy, presenting these acts as the work of a terrorist organization, namely Montoneros.
These documents, discovered by Falklands historian Ricky D. Phillips, date back to April 12, 1982, shortly after Argentina initiated its mission to claim the Falkland Islands. Although classified until 2018, they were only made public when Phillips stumbled upon them while researching for a book project. He revealed that the documents illustrated a military strategy orchestrated by the Argentines to capture and eliminate a large group of individuals, a move he likened to Adolf Hitler's Kristallnacht.
The report indicated that as early as the evening of April 11, 1982, the 601st Intelligence Battalion, a division of the Argentine Army Intelligence Service, was preparing its contingency measures to "disappear" American citizens in Argentina should the US align with the British stance on the islands. The term "disappeared" in this context signified a grim fate, likely involving death rather than imprisonment. The report hinted at intelligence and security personnel from the US embassy in Buenos Aires, while simultaneously indicating that teams from the battalion were mobilizing to potentially act against 500 British subjects once hostilities commenced.

Unbelievable. The ruthlessness towards innocent civilians is beyond comprehension.

Completely parallels the horrors of other dictatorships. A chilling reminder of potential extremism.

This demonstrates the immense danger British citizens were in. A near-miss in history.

What about the British perspective? Did they provoke Argentina? This story is one-sided.

Argentina's actions must be condemned. They need to be held accountable for their inhumane plans.
