Two weather maps depict a significant rainstorm poised to engulf a large portion of the country within a short timeframe. One map, sourced from WX Charts, illustrates a broad band of rain extending from Glencoe in Scotland down to Southampton on England's southern coast.
Following a summer marked by record-breaking warmth in the UK, the season appears to be concluding with a period of wet weather. The second map indicates approximately 5mm of rainfall expected over southern Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland by midday on Wednesday, September 3rd. Furthermore, up to 1mm of rain is predicted to affect England and Wales, based on the models generated by WX Charts using Met Desk data. Accompanying the rain, another map highlights wind gusts reaching speeds between 31-37mph (50-60kmh) across England and Wales.
The impending rainfall follows a summer characterized by below-average precipitation. Provisional data from the Met Office indicates that the UK experienced only 84% of its long-term seasonal average. England, in particular, has endured its driest spring in over a century and the driest January to July period since 1929. Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill anticipates a more autumnal weather pattern in the coming days, with showers and potentially prolonged periods of rain, even including the possibility of thunderstorms. The blustery weather and showers are attributed to low pressure in the northwest, with a front moving in from the southwest on Monday night. Another front is expected to bring unsettled conditions on Wednesday.
Showers are expected to diminish somewhat during the evening and overnight. A band of heavy rain will move into southwest England and the far south of Wales by dawn. Rain will then spread eastward across the southern counties of England and Wales on Tuesday. Elsewhere, a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers is anticipated. Winds will be lighter, and temperatures will be near average. The forecast for Wednesday through Friday includes brisk winds and heavy rain likely on Wednesday, followed by sunny spells and heavy showers on Thursday. Friday may bring drier and brighter conditions for many, with temperatures around average.

Record-breaking warmth is great, but drought followed by floods? Feels like we're on a rollercoaster.

I wasn't expecting much of a summer vacation from these conditions. I don't mind the weather.
