In the early hours of Saturday, a man drove his car into a crowd gathered outside a wine bar in northern France, resulting in one fatality and five injuries, according to prosecutors. The event occurred in Evreux, a town located in the Normandy region.
The incident, which took place around 4 am local time, prompted an investigation into charges of homicide and attempted homicide. Authorities have dismissed any potential terrorist or racist motivations behind the attack.
The public prosecutor of Evreux, Remi Coutin, confirmed the severity of the situation. He reported that one man died at the scene. Additionally, five individuals sustained injuries, with two of them in critical condition.
Coutin explained that the events leading up to the incident involved an altercation between a young woman and several men. Following the dispute, bouncers from the establishment escorted all patrons outside. Subsequently, one individual retrieved a vehicle and intentionally drove it at high speed into the crowd.
As a result of the incident, two men and one woman have been taken into custody.
