Ukrainian authorities have apprehended a suspect in connection with the shooting death of Andriy Parubiy, a former parliament speaker and a well-known figure who supported Western ideals. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the arrest in a statement released on X, formerly known as Twitter. The arrest occurred in Lviv on Saturday, following the shooting.
Details regarding the suspect and the motive behind the killing have not been disclosed, aside from the fact that the suspect provided "initial statements." President Zelenskyy has directed that all available information be made public as the investigation progresses.
Andriy Parubiy, aged 54, was a representative from the Lviv region. He played a role in Ukraine's Orange Revolution in 2004 and led self-defense units during the 2014 Maidan protests, which led to the removal of pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych. He served as the speaker of the parliament from 2016 to 2019.
According to reports from local media, Parubiy was shot multiple times by an individual disguised as a courier on an e-bike. President Zelenskyy has condemned the killing as a "horrific murder" and has pledged to utilize all available resources to ensure a thorough investigation.

Another day, another murder in Ukraine. When will this cycle of violence end? This announcement won't change that.

Zelenskyy should focus more on actual governance instead of reacting to political figures' murders.

This shows that crime won't be tolerated in Ukraine, even against high-profile figures. Let's hope for a thorough investigation.
